Choosing the best rental car company is only the first step to getting a rental deal that suits you. It would pay to have a clear idea of what you needed the rental vehicle for before picking up the phone or going online. Consider the following four points:

1. How far will you be driving?

2. Where will you be driving?

3. How many passengers will you have?

4. How much luggage space will you need?

How far will you be driving?

Distance is a major determinant as it equates to time spent in the vehicle. If you are travelling for anything more than three hours a day it would be wise to look at a vehicle that is more spacious. In addition to the roominess of the vehicle the luxuries such as air-conditioning, music players, power steering and the like become more important.

Where will you be driving?

Terrain is also important as the size of the engine, fuel consumption and size of the vehicle come into play. If you are driving around the City it would advisable to take a smaller vehicle to fit better into cramped parking’s. If however you are traveling long distances beware of taking too small a vehicle as you are likely to need to accent steep passes or travel on uneven roads. Knowing the type of conditions you are going to be driving in will greatly increase the pleasure of the experience.

How many passengers will you have with you?

This seems as though it is a fairly obvious question to answer but is often times the one people take for granted. If the specifications for a vehicle are that it is a five seater it is more likely they will be more comfortable in a station wagon as opposed to a hatch back even though on paper the vehicle specifications are the same. Similarly if only two people are travelling a smaller vehicle might be better on fuel consumption without making much of a difference to the power of the car.

How much luggage space will you need?

This question may seem counter intuitive at times as some hatch backs have more boot space than some sedan vehicles. The best thing to do is ask the rental car company for advice if you need more than the average amount of luggage space. Very importantly though is to not take for granted that a vehicle will have sufficient luggage space.
